Name: Peppermint Ice Cream

Ingredients: 1 pint whipping cream, not heavy cream; 1 pint whole milk; ½ cup granulated sugar; 1 tsp peppermint extract; 3 drops red food coloring; 50 peppermint candies, hard candies, or equivalent candy canes

Method

Slightly warm 1 cup of the milk in the microwave, about a minute. Stir in the sugar until it dissolves.

Add the second cup of the milk to the mixture and stir in the red food coloring.
Pour the cream, milk/sugar mixture, and peppermint extract into the ice cream maker. Turn on the ice cream maker and set the timer for 20 minutes.

Place the unwrapped candy into a bag and break it into small pieces with a hammer.
After the ice cream mixture has been processing for 20 minutes, pour in the candy pieces and continue to mix for another 5 minutes.

Pour the mixture into a container and freeze for at least 2 1/2 hours.
